The agitators belonged to an ST community and staged a sit-in near the tahsildar’s office. Though they started agitating on Tuesday, it intensified soon as they even cooked food on the verandah in the taluk office.

When police tried to pacify them, they demanded redressal of their long- pending grievance since they were unable to pursue education or employment without a community certificate. They were then asked to meet the sub-collector who said that action would be taken on their demand within a fortnight. However, when they refused to relent, they were arrested.
