68,845 tested in Thoothukudi, so far: Thoothukudi Collector Sandeep Nanduri

As many as 68,845 tests have so far been done in the Thoothukudi district to contain COVID-19 spread. Among those tested, 7,846 have been infected and 58 patients died. At present, the active cases numbering 2,137 are being treated in hospitals, Thoothukudi Collector Sandeep Nanduri said after inspecting anti-COVID measures on Ayyalu Street in Thoothukudi town on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters, the Collector said around 2,700 samples were being collected on a daily average. Besides, 65 fever camps have been conducted. Totally, 58 containment zones have been identified. Further, the Collector said additional facilities with hundred more beds and oxygen parlour are underway at Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital.

Thousand beds have been equipped in GHs in Kovilpatti, Tiruchendur and Vilathikulam, he added.
