60 hospitalised after eating canteen food at Walajabad pvt firm

On Friday night, a few women staff who were on the night shift had consumed food in the canteen, which belongs to the firm.

CHENNAI: As many as 60 women staff of a private factory in Walajabad were hospitalised after eating canteen food on Friday.

Sumi Systems Private Firm which manufactures electronic spare parts is located at Walajabad in Kancheepuram. More than 5,000 women work in the factory on shift basis. On Friday night, a few women staff who were on the night shift had consumed food in the canteen, which belongs to the firm.

Police sources said they found a lizard in the food and after a few minutes around 30 womenbegan to vomit and fell unconscious. Soon, they were admitted to a private hospital in Walajabad and the 11 others were taken to the Kancheepuram GH. Police sources said all of them were fine and would be discharged soon. The Walajabad police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
