According to police, on January 22, V Stephen Raja, a resident of Kajapettai in Tiruchy, saw the girl, who has been studying in class 2, playing with his grandchildren near the locality, and Stephen Raja attempted to misbehave with the girl.

She, however, managed to escape from him and passed on the information to her parents, who had lodged a complaint with the Fort All women police.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under various sections, including the Pocso Act and conducted an investigation, which found that the complaint was genuine.
