COIMBATORE: Five girl students of a women’s hostel run by Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority within the Namakkal collector office premises were admitted to Namakkal Government Medical College Hospital on Tuesday after they suffered from bouts of vomiting and dizziness.

Five students, aged between 12 and 15 and studying in Namakkal Government Girls Higher Secondary School, suddenly fell ill during class hours on Tuesday morning. They were immediately taken to the hospital, where they continue to be under treatment.

A team led by District Food Safety Officer S Selvakumar inspected the hostel kitchen and also inquired with the affected students. The girls claimed to have consumed chicken the previous night and 'khichdi' for breakfast served in the hostel.

“The students are currently under observation at the Government Hospital and are reported to be stable. An investigation is underway to establish the cause of their illness caused by food poisoning,” said an official.
