5 get double life term for twin murder

A court here on Friday awarded double life to five persons in connection with a double murder case.

According to the prosecution, the five men, C Surya, R Surya, Mohanraj, Vignesh Kumar and Vijayaraj killed Selvaraj and Anand Kumar, an auto driver, on September 22, 2017.


The double murder was an outcome of some issues related to illicit affair between two warring groups. It all started with Selvaraj killing Vinod Kumar from Selvapuram as he had an affair with his friend’s wife. He was then arrested and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.


The five men were waiting for the right opportunity to take revenge for the murder of their friend. And when, Vinod Kumar came out on bail, the five men hacked him and his friend Anand Kumar using lethal weapons.


The accused persons waylaid the auto rickshaw to execute the brutal murder in full public view in broad day light. The Selvapuram police registered a case against them under various counts including murder and rioting with deadly weapons.


On hearing the case, Judge Malar Valentina awarded double life to the five persons and also slapped a penalty of Rs 12,000 on each of them.
