4 die, 14 injured as minibus overturns in Virudhunagar

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Three school students among four passengers were killed, and 14 others were injured after a private mini-bus overturned at Mamsapuram near Srivilliputhur in this Southern district on Friday.

Police said the driver of the minibus lost control while negotiating a bend in the Gandhi Nagar area at Mamsapuram following which the vehicle skidded off the road, overturned, and fell into a roadside ditch.

As the passengers were trapped beneath the overturned vehicle, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel and police rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, and sent them to

Government hospital at Srivilliputhur for treatment. However, four persons including three school students succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased were identified as Nithish Kumar, Sridhar, Vasudevan alias Vasu, and Sathish Kumar. The minibus carrying around 30 passengers was going to Srivilliputhur from Mamsapuram, when the accident occurred.

Enraged over the accident, a large number of locals resorted to a road roko demanding widening of the road and operating additional buses from Srivilliputhur to Mamsapuram. Senior revenue and police officials pacified the agitators and restored normalcy.
