4 arrested from Karur for organising rooster fight

CHENNAI: The police arrested four persons for during a sudden search operation at a particular spot in Karur for organising a rooster fight without permission on Wednesday and seized 12 knives and a two-wheeler from the quartet.

Acting on a tip off that rooster fights were being clandestinely organised by a group at Kattupalayam near Chinnadharapuram in Karur, the police stepped up vehicle inspection at key point leading to the locality and also conducted surprise raids at the specific spot.

A police team headed by Chinnadharapuram Inspector Azhagu Ram while conducting searches at Kattupalayam spotted a group of four persons conducting rooster fights.

During inquiries the team found that the group was organising the event without permission and arrested the quartet, who were identified as Pradeep (38), Devaraj (22), Mohan (40) and Ponnusamy (41), besides seizing as many as 12 sharp knives and a two-wheeler. Pointing to the number of knives, police said 12 roosters should have been brought for the fight.

Upon inquiry, they confessed to the police that they had sent away the roosters kept ready for the fight with their owners/supporters. Further investigations are on to nab those who escaped from the spot.
