31 DPCs opened in Tiruvannamalai for kharif season

The district administration through the State Civil Supplies Corporation has opened 31 DPCs (direct purchase centres) in various locations to procure a total of 17, 472 tonnes paddy in the current kharif marketing season, according to Collector KS Kandasamy.

With the government offering Rs 1,905 per quintal for high grade paddy and Rs 1,865 for common paddy of the same weight, it is expected that a total of 3,210 farmers will benefit this year, officials said. The lack of rain resulted in only 14,270 tonnes paddy being procured in the same season last year (2018-19) that benefitted 2,623 farmers, he added.


HR&CE Minister Sevoor S Ramachandran inaugurated a DPC at Boothamangalam village in Thurinjapuram panchayat union on Monday. DPCs are being operated at various locations in Tiruvannamalai, Polur, Wandavasi, Chetpet, Arani, Cheyyar, Vembakkam, Kil Pennathur, Kalasapakkam and Chengam taluks, officials said.
