Three guest workers die in mini lorry accident in Karur

The deceased were identified as Vidayanand Prabakar (48) of Bihar, Ajas Bhangra (31) and Sikkandar Khetha (21) of Odisha. The truck was driven by Santhana Kumar (45) of Vengamedu, and another worker, Bulgim Parwa (30) of Odisha, was also aboard the vehicle.

TIRUCHY: Three guest workers were crushed to death on the spot, as the mini lorry which carried them toppled in Karur on Saturday. Two other workers sustained injuries.

The deceased were identified as Vidayanand Prabakar (48) of Bihar, Ajas Bhangra (31) and Sikkandar Khetha (21) of Odisha. The truck was driven by Santhana Kumar (45) of Vengamedu, and another worker, Bulgim Parwa (30) of Odisha, was also aboard the vehicle.

The workers were attached to a stone quarry in Kodanthur near Thennilai of Karur. While they were en route to Dindigul in the mini lorry, loaded with M-Sand, the mishap occurred. When the vehicle neared Muthalai Goundarpudur in Kodanthur-Gudalur Main Road, Santhana Kumar lost control of the vehicle, and the mini lorry toppled, trapping the four workers in the M-Sand load.

The Thennilai police rushed to the spot on information and retrieved the persons who were trapped in the load. Vidyanand Prabakar, Sikkandar Khetha and Ajas Bhangra died on the spot, while Bulgim Parwa and driver Santhana Kumar sustained severe injuries. They were rushed to a private hospital, while the bodies were rushed to the Karur Medical College Hospital. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
