3 dead, 4 injured in car-lorry collision

Three persons died on the spot while four sustained severe injuries after a car collided lorry collided during wee hours, here on Tuesday.

A group of seven persons who were identified as S Prabhu (42) of Saminathapuram in Salem, Sathish Kumar (40) of Arisipalayam, Palanisamy (62), Rajalingam (48) from the same place, Gopal (45) from Saminathapuram, Prabakaran (28), Mani (45) from the same place went to Kumbakonam for a funeral.

While they were nearing Umayalpuram near Musiri in Tiruchy at around 11.45 pm on Monday, Prabhu who was driving the car lost control and hit a lorry that was coming in the opposite direction. The collision was such that car got crushed and Prabhu, Sathish Kumar and Palanisamy died on the spot while the other four sustained injuries and were struggling for life.

On information, a police team led by DSP Prammanandam rushed to the spot and commenced the rescue operation.

The police retrieved the bodies and sent them to the Musiri General Hospital while the injured were rushed to Tiruchy General Hospital where they have been undergoing treatment and their condition is said to be critical.

Musiri police registered a case and are searching for the lorry driver who escaped.
