3 boys drown while bathing in pond at Sathyamangalam

Three boys, aged between 12 and 14, drowned while bathing in a pond in Sathyamangalam in Erode district on Thursday.

The deceased identified as S Moulishwaran, 13, R Dilip Kumar, 12 and Jeevanandan, 14, all hailing from the same village had gone to bathe in a pond in Venganayakkanpalayam area.

“The pond was desilted recently and there was copious water in its storage. While bathing the boys had ventured into deep water in a playful mood and drowned. A group of workers involved in farm activity nearby had noticed that the boys were missing and informed villagers. Following a search, the villagers retrieved the body of Moulishwaran and Dilip Kumar during late evening hours,” police said.

Then, after two hours of search, the body of Jeevanandan was taken out of water. On receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies of the deceased for a post mortem at Sathyamangalam Government Hospital. A case has been registered and further inquiries are on.
