5 per cent for economically weaker sections among the upper castes and said the cut off discrepancy has revealed how the ruling BJP has buried social justice.

SBI has set 61.25 per cent as cut off for OBC/SCs, 53.75 per cent for STs and 28.5 per cent for EWS among upper castes to clear the exam. Stalin also urged the Centre to immediately do away with the economy based 10 per cent reservation which defeats social justice and denies the opportunityto OBCs and SC/ST to join centralservice.

The CPM, which has supported the 10 per cent reservation to EWS among upper castes, strongly condemned the bias and urged the SBI to immediately sort out the issue. Instead of reducing the cut off marks of OBC/SC/ST category candidates when enough people from the categories don’t qualify for the previously set cut off, the Centre was filling the seats with the unreserved category candidates, the state executive of CPM alleged.

The bank has attempted to counter this by extending 10 per cent reservation to EWS among upper castes, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said, before condemning the bank for the difference in cut-off among the reserved and unreserved categories. Urging the Center to appoint candidates of unreserved and reserved category candidates selected based on their merit and reservation offered to them respectively, the CPM also advised the Centre to fill backlog SC/ST and OBC vacancies with candidates from the respective categories.

Joining issue, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran said the mistake which could shake the foundation of social justice should be immediately set right. Dhinakaran also sought an explanation from the Centre and SBI in this regard.
