COIMBATORE: Not ruling out the possibility of O Panneerselvam and TTV Dhinakaran returning to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the 2026 Assembly polls, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran said that things can change very fast.
Speaking to the media in Krishnagiri, the BJP leader pointed out that there are still three months left before the polls, expressing confidence that anything could happen before the electoral line-up takes shape. “Even within 24 hours, several parties have joined alliances in the past,” he said.
Nagenthran was hopeful that more parties would join the NDA after Pongal. Referring to Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s recent meeting with AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, the BJP leader said the discussions focused only on NDA constituents, not on seat-sharing arrangements.
Taking a dig at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which claims the 2026 polls are a direct contest between the ruling DMK and the Vijay-led party, Nagenthran questioned whether the party had a complete booth-level organisational structure and was prepared to announce candidates for all constituencies now.
Listing the unkept promises of DMK, including reducing the prices of petrol, diesel, and LPG, Nagenthran said they have failed to implement most of their election manifesto assurances.
Accusing the ruling party of spreading misinformation about the renaming of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the BJP leader said the number of days under the scheme has been increased to 125 days. “But the DMK held protests across Tamil Nadu alleging that the scheme will be scrapped,” he said.
