CHENNAI: The police arrested a 22-year-old youth who stabbed his ex-lover and her boyfriend in Melmaruvathur on Thursday.

The victim, Saravanan of Cuddalore, got introduced to a girl while playing the Free Fire mobile game online. Saravanan eventually became close to the girl, and they have been in a relationship for the past few months. On Thursday, Saravanan travelled to Melmaruvathur to visit his girlfriend at her house.

The police said the girl used to interact with Ezhilarasan (22) of Thiruvanamalai through the same mobile game. It is believed that the girl was in an online relationship with Ezhilarasan earlier. However, once she became close with Saravanan, she started maintaining distance from Ezhilarasan and even stopped playing games with him.

Ezhilarasan was enraged over this. In such a backdrop, upon knowing the couple’s plan to meet on Thursday evening, he barged into the house of the girl at Melmaruvathur and took a knife and stabbed both of them. Later, he escaped from the spot.

Based on the information, the Melmaruvathur police visited the spot and admitted both of them to Chengalpattu GH. The police also arrested Ezhilarasan after a search, and he was remanded in judicial custody and sent to prison.
