200 kg ganja seized in Ramanathapuram district

RAMANATHAPURAM: Police seized 200 kg of ganja worth Rs 30 lakh, which was allegedly brought to be smuggled to Sri Lanka by sea, and arrested one person along with a luxury car in Ramanathapuram district.

Based on specific intelligence that ganja was being transported for smuggling to Sri Lanka, Q Branch police intercepted a luxury car near Subbaiya Nagar on East Coast Road junction at Pattinamkathan.

During the inspection, police found 200 kg of ganja valued at around Rs 30 lakh. The car was also seized. The accused, Manikandan (41), son of Sathyanandam, a resident of Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district, Chennai, was arrested. Further investigation into the smuggling network is under way.
