2-year-old girl dies in Thanjavur car mishap

THANJAVUR: A two-year-old girl died after being hit by a car near Thanjavur on April 3.

The deceased was identified as Lakshitha (2), daughter of Sivasuriyan from Maapillai Nayakkanpatti, near Thanjavur.

She was playing outside her house on Thursday evening when a car passing through the area hit her, police said.

She sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a private hospital. However, doctors stated that she was brought dead.

Based on a complaint, Thanjavur Tamil University police registered a case and began an inquiry.

During the investigation, the police identified the driver as a 36-year-old man from Bihar, who is currently working as an airman at the Thanjavur Air Force Station.

The driver has been secured and is being questioned, police said.
