2 sentenced to life for murdering EO’s wife

A local court in Ariyalur on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to two persons for murdering the wife of a town panchayat executive officer.

TIRUCHY: According to prosecution, Gunasekaran, a resident of Velayuthanagar near Jayankondam, was working as an executive officer at Thittakudi town panchayat in Cuddalore district. On March 28, 2018, while Gunasekaran’s wife Bharathi was alone at home at Velayuthanagar, S Jayanthi (47) from the same area and K Chinnarasu (22) from Okkanatham went to the house and stabbed Bharathi to death before escaping with 15 sovereigns of jewels.

Jayankondam police registered a case and arrested Jayanthi and Chinnarasu. Both of them were charged with murder and lodged in the prison and the trial in the case was in progress at the principal sessions court in Ariyalur.

On Thursday, judge Mahalakshmi, after hearing the arguments, convicted both Jayanthi and Chinnarasu and awarded life imprisonment.

Subsequently they were lodged in the special prison for women and Central prison in Tiruchy respectively.
