Lakshmi (39), the sole bread winner of the family, earned a living by doing tailoring at her house. She has three daughters Anusiya, Ishwarya and Akshaya and last year her husband, a rice merchant, passed after which the family was finding it difficult to make the ends meet. With the aid of her relatives in the locality, Lakshmi managed to provide education for her daughters. However, Lakshmi got embarrassed to seek constant help and shared this with her sister on Wednesday night. By the morning, Lakshmi served coffee laced with poison to her three daughters and she too consumed it.
On Thursday, as Lakshmi’s house was locked for a long time, the neighbours tried to open the door and were shocked to find all the four lying unconscious. Soon, Lakshmi and her ten-year-old daughter Akshaya (10), were rushed to Theni GMCH in a critical condition. However, the two daughters identified as Anusiya and Ishwarya succumbed.
After inquiring, Theni Superintendent of Police V Baskaran said, that the investigation team recovered suicide note from the house saying that the woman was unable to bear the pain of her husband’s death and found it difficult to make the ends meet. According to hospital sources, Lakshmi is undergoing treatment in ICU and her daughter Akshaya is recovering. Bodi Town police have filed a complaint.
Woman throws 3 daughters into canal
In a shocking incident, a woman killed her three daughters by throwing them into a canal following a quarrel with her alcoholic husband at Sathappalayam village near Sethiyathoppu in Cuddalore district on Thursday morning.
The police sources said that the woman Sathyavathi was married to Manikandan eight years ago and the couple have three daughters. Since Manikandan was an alcoholic, frequent quarrels broke out between the couple and an upset Sathyavathi went to her parent’s house on Wednesday evening along with her daughters Akshaya, Nandini and Darshini. The parents consoled the couple and sent them home. While they were on their way, Sathyavathi suddenly threw her three daughters in a canal.
Acting on information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and fished out two bodies. A search was on to trace the other body, reports received at the police headquarters here said. The police have arrested Sathyavathi and are interrogating.
