2 home guards among 31 hurt in Keeranur jallikattu

KEERANUR: Thirty-one persons, including two home guard personnel, got injured during a jallikattu event held as part of the Karuppar temple festival at Mangathevanpatti village, Keeranur in Pudukkottai district, on Saturday.

Illuppur Tahsildar Gokul Singh and North District DMK secretary Chellapandian flagged off the event.

A total of 780 bulls and 300 tamers took part. Seven tamers, 16 bull owners, six spectators, and two home guards — 31 persons in total — were injured. Seven were referred for further treatment.

A bull belonging to Thandu Kaarampatti Kannan slipped while exiting the vaadivasal, and both its legs got fractured. The bull received immediate medical care.
