18 passengers injured as 2 govt buses collide on Pamban bridge

The accident may have occurred due to ongoing rains in Rameswaram area early this morning and the water flowing on the Pampan Bridge.

MADURAI: Eighteen passengers were injured in an accident, which occurred on Pamban bridge in Ramanathapuram district on Thursday. Two government-run buses collided leaving those passengers in two buses injured. It is second such accident during the recent past. Ramanathapuram superintendent of police P Thangadurai said the accident occurred at around 6 am. After enquiries, the SP said the Madurai bound bus from Rameswaram suffered brake failure before colliding with the Rameswaram bound bus from Trichy. A bus driver was hurt on the abdomen in the accident, the SP said. Based on a complaint, Pamban police have filed a case.
