2 girl students attempt suicide by consuming poison in Salem

COIMBATORE: Two girls studying in Class 9 at Vazhapadi Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Salem attempted suicide by consuming poisonous cow dung powder on the school premises on Tuesday. Preliminary inquiries revealed that they took the extreme step due to some issues in their family. Both the girls, aged 14 are undergoing treatment in Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital. Police said one of the girls from Indira Nagar had informed her friend, hailing from Somampatti, on her decision to end life owing to some problem in her family. Hearing this, the other girl too decided to commit suicide as she was depressed over her father beating her frequently. The two girls brought poisonous cow dung powder, mixed it in water and drank. The other students, who were shocked on seeing this, had informed teachers, who immediately rushed them to Vazhapadi GH. A team led by Vazhapadi DSP Shweta and officials of the education department visited the school and held an inquiry.
