12.27 L forms for inclusion of names in voter list submitted so far

Once the forms are accepted by electoral officers, the applicants will become new voters and will be eligible to vote in the ensuing election.

CHENNAI: Around 12.27 lakh forms have been submitted for the inclusion of names in the voter list as of Thursday (January 8).

Since the claims and objections exercise began on December 19, 12.27 lakh applicants have submitted Form 6, prescribed for name inclusion in the electoral roll.

Once the forms are accepted by electoral officers, the applicants will become new voters and will be eligible to vote in the ensuing election.

Under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the claims and objections process will be completed on January 18.

New voters will not only be eligible to exercise their franchise in the upcoming election but will also be issued free photo identity cards.

Even after the SIR exercise concludes, citizens can apply for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll up to ten days before the last date for filing nominations for a given election.
