115 Girls of govt school fall sick after taking deworming tablets

The students of Government Girls High School at Gandhi Nagar in Attur developed nausea and vomiting, while some swooned soon after consuming the tablets around afternoon.

COIMBATORE: Around 115 girl students of a government school in Salem fell sick after taking deworming tablets given to them by the Health Department on Friday. The students of Government Girls High School at Gandhi Nagar in Attur developed nausea and vomiting, while some swooned soon after consuming the tablets around afternoon.

Teachers rushed the students by private ambulances to Attur Government Hospital. As the news of the students falling ill in massive numbers spread out, the panicked parents, relatives and other villagers gathered in large numbers at the hospital.

Police personnel were deployed as a precaution. Around 43 students were discharged, while 72 others are under observation. Health officials, clueless over the large number of students falling sick, said that they have advised students with fever, cold and cough not to take deworming tablets.
