106 desilting works to be carried out in Tiruvarur

As many as 106 desilt works to the tune of Rs 22.56 crore would be undertaken in Tiruvarur district, said Food Minister R Kamaraj on Saturday.

Inaugurating the desilting works at Ammayappan panchayat in Koradacherry union, Kamaraj told reporters that, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who is also a farmer, is more concerned about the welfare of the farming community and always accords priority to their development. In order to ensure uninterrupted flow for irrigation, the Chief Minister launched the Kudimaramathu scheme and desilt works which would engage in repair and desilt of all the water bodies across the state.

Accordingly, as many as 106 desilting works to the tune of Rs 22.56 crore would be initiated in the district through which rivers, canals and other water bodies would be cleaned to ensure free flow of water for the kuruvai crop, he said.

On Saturday, the minister inaugurated the desilt works at Ammayappan panchayat to the tune of Rs 40 lakh. Desilting works would be carried out in canals for six km in the region. He also assured to hear the grievances of the farmers and redress them after consultations with the Chief Minister.

Superintendent Engineer (Thanjavur Division) Anbarasan, Divisional Executive Engineer Murugavel, RDO Jayapreetha and others were present.
