Vijay’s all-round performance helps Vidya Mandir win

K Vijay Priyadarsan (29 and 4/17) came up with an all-round performance as Vidya Mandir (Chennai) defeated Government Boys MHSS (Srirangam) by 57 runs in the final phase of the Junior Super Kings tournament at the ICL Sankar Nagar ‘B’ Ground in Tirunelveli on Friday.

While batting first in the Group A clash, Vidya Mandir made 165 for six in its stipulated overs, thanks to useful contributions from four of its players. Defending a little over eight runs an over, right-arm medium pacers CV Achyuth (4/14) and Vijay sizzled with the ball, taking four wickets each. Courtesy their combined efforts, the victor bowled out Government Boys MHSS for 108 in 18.1 overs, ensuring an easy success.

SMBM (Dindigul) 66 for 7 in 20 overs (S Jayanth 29, B Iyappan 3/7, SJ Arunkumar 2/13) lost to Plato’s Academy (Tirupur) 70 for 3 in 10.3 overs (KTA Madhava Prasad 22*, B Sachin 2/22). Points: Plato’s Academy 4; SMBM 0.
