TNCA: Nirmal shines in Gopalapuram’s win

P Nirmal Kumar (7/43) came up with a breathtaking spell as Gopalapuram Cricket Club got the better of Dorairaj Memorial Cricket Club by 16 runs in a low-scoring TNCA Fifth Division ‘B’ duel here.

Batting first, Gopalapuram could manage only 136 runs courtesy Parthiban Jayaraman’s (5/39) five-wicket haul. Defending a low total, Gopalapuram’s left-arm spinner Nirmal wreaked havoc, scalping seven to skittle out Dorairaj Memorial for a paltry 120. In another duel, M Vetrivel (116 not out) smashed an unbeaten century to guide Eagle Cricket Club to a three-wicket success over Egmore Club.

Egmore Club 241 for 8 in 50 overs (S Suudharshan Vaidhya 89, S Naresh 72) lost to Eagle CC 243 for 7 in 48.4 overs (M Vetrivel 116*, M Iyyappan 34, B Jayanth 31);

Gopalapuram CC 136 all-out in 45.2 overs (V Mohan Kumar 43, Parthiban Jayaraman 5/39) beat Dorairaj Memorial CC 120 all-out in 37.4 overs (SM Beaulet Julin 48, P Nirmal Kumar 7/43);

Prasad CC 147 all-out in 45.1 overs (Srikanth 30, R Ragul 32 not out, Varun Adithy Radhakrishnan 4/47) lost to National United Club 149 for 8 in 48.5 overs (H Raamachandiran 43, Rohit Venkatakrishnan 3/35).
