CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu came close to clinching a win against Uttar Pradesh on the final day of the fourth round of the Elite ‘A’ men’s U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy at KSCA Navule Stadium in Shivamogga on Thursday.

Resuming from its overnight score of 43/1, was bowled out for 191, setting UP a target of 201 in a minimum of 35 overs. Arya Ganesh top-scored for TN with 69 (86b, 11x4, 1x6). UP’s Prithviraj Singh (4/41) and Krishna Yadav (3/33) shared seven wickets between them. In reply, UP was 95 for six when play ended with Aalok Kumar unbeaten on 42. TN’s Rishi Kannan took 3/18.

BRIEF SCORES: Tamil Nadu 269 & 191 in 68.1 overs (Rishab Sriram 33, Arya Ganesh 69, Prithviraj Singh 4/41, Krishna Yadav 3/33) drew with Uttar Pradesh 260 & 95/6 in 40 overs (Aalok Kumar 42*, Rishi Kannan 3/18). Points: TN 3 (14); UP 1 (15)
