Sandya emerges as a champion

M Sandya emerged champion in the Chennai District Women’s Selection Chess Championship. The two-day selection event was held at Kalaimagal Vidyalaya MHSS, Royapuram on December 30 and 31.

Sandya M scored 6 points out of 7 rounds and clinched the title of the tournament with the cash prize of Rs.500 along with Rolling Trophy was sponsored by T.Nagar Chess Academy.

In all, 55 players participated in this tournament with 7 rounds by Swiss pairing system and time control of 45 minutes each. The top 10 players would represent Chennai district in the Tamil Nadu State Women Chess Championship to be held at Tiruvarur.

The senior selection event also had separate age-group competitions for the Under 8,10,12 and 14 girls categories separately. Cash prize were given to top five players.
