CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu quartet of Deeksha Sivakumar, Pramati Gnanasekaran, Danush Suresh, and B Bendection Rohit broke a national record and won gold for Tamil Nadu in the Mixed 4x100 medley event at the ongoing 77th Senior Aquatics Championship in Mangalore.

The previous national record, held by Maharashtra with a time of 4:06.84, was surpassed on the second day of the championship when the Tamil Nadu quartet finished with a time of 4:05.30.

Later in the day, the Tamil Nadu contingent had more reasons to celebrate as Adhithya Dinesh, Bala Ponni, Bendection, and Deeksha bagged a silver in the Mixed 4x100 freestyle event.

Deeksha, who is making her third appearance at the senior nationals, won her first gold and silver medals in the annual event on Wednesday. She came close to winning another medal in the individual women's 100m freestyle event but fell short and finished fourth with a time of 59.91. First place was won by Mahi Swetraj from Bihar with a time of 58.54. Deeksha will be in action again on Thursday in the 4x100 medley relay and 50m freestyle events.
