The 31-year-old was the second highest goal scorer for Levante, behind forward Roger Marti Salvador, who netted 13 times during the recently concluded season. The Spaniard has been associated with the Valencia-based side since 2011. After spending two years with the B team, the winger was promoted to the main squad in 2013. In an email conversation with DT Next, Morales touched upon a few topics.
Excerpts:
How did you end up arriving at Levante?
I was aware that the club was behind a centre-back, because I had a good relationship with the captain of Fuenlabrada, who was a friend of Juan Mora. He told me that officials were coming to see him, so that I would try to help him more on the pitch and he would stand out. By chance, it was me who caught their eye (laughs). In the end, when you take a gamble on a dream, you give everything. There are opportunities that only come around once. That day, when they came to watch my teammate, that was my opportunity and I took it.
What are some of the dreams you are yet to achieve?
On an individual level, one of my dreams was to get into professional football, I have already done it. I would like to play in a European competition with Levante, because it is a wonderful thing to be able to represent the club at the continental level. Even though it is a difficult task, you never lose motivation. That is what I want to fulfil next.
Tell us how the ‘El Comandante’ nickname came about?
We played Rayo Vallecano just before Christmas (2018). We were in a pretty bad situation back then, in relegation places. My teammate Ivan Lopez asked me if I was going to score that day and I told him that I hoped so, as I had already prepared a celebration. My agent and family members thought that if I wanted to be an important part of the team, I had to take charge. Things went well after that match. Hopefully, Levante has a ‘Commander’ for a long time.
