Air-rifle trio wins India’s fifth gold

The air-rifle women’s team, comprising Meghana Sajjanar, Elavenil Valarivan and Mehuli Ghosh, secured bronze, prevailing 17-11 against Germany.

CAIRO: The India men’s 10m air-rifle troika of Rudrankksh Patil, Kiran Ankush Jadhav and Arjun Babuta clinched the country’s fifth gold medal in the ISSF World Championship here on Sunday, routing China 16-10 in the title round.

It was Rudrankksh’s second senior World Championship yellow metal in his very first outing, having won the individual 10m air-rifle event earlier. India also picked up silver and two bronze medals on the day to take its tally to five gold, one silver and five bronze, and remain in second place behind China.

Manvi Jain and Sameer earned India’s first silver medal of the championship after going down 3-17 to China’s Feng Sixuan and Liu Yangpan in the gold medal match of the 25m standard pistol mixed team junior competition. Payal Khatri and Sahil Dudhane bagged bronze in the same event, defeating Ane Torgersen and Hans Noestvold of Norway 16-14 in a close encounter.
