A senior Divisional Forest Officer said Devraj and Kaveri alias Ajitha hailing from Andhra Pradesh were killed in the encounter at Karulayi forest range near Padukka. The third person was yet to be identified, he said.

The Thunderbolt has launched combing operation in the woods following reports on the presence of the ultra-leftists. Thunderbolt had earlier conducted similar search operations in Nilambur and Wayanad on reports of spotting Maoists.

It may be noted, at least six Maoists were killed by a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand police in an encounter in Latehar district early on Wednesday.
