CHENNAI: Air India has announced that passengers affected by flight delays or cancellations due to fog will receive a full refund of their ticket fare or be offered alternative flight arrangements at no extra cost.

The airline has introduced these measures ahead of the heavy fog season, which the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has declared will be in effect from December 10, 2025, to February 10, 2026.

With dense fog expected to disrupt air services across the country in the coming weeks, thousands of passengers are likely to face delays and cancellations. To minimise hardship, Air India has launched passenger-friendly initiatives under its Air India Fog Care programme.

The airline said that passengers whose flights were cancelled due to fog will be rebooked on the next available flight, while those who prefer not to travel due to long delays can opt for a full fare refund without any deductions. Air India would issue advance alerts to passengers via SMS, WhatsApp, and email, ensuring they were informed in advance of potential disruptions.

The airline has also set up 24-hour operational control centres at major airports, including Chennai, New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata. These centres will coordinate flight schedules, delays and passenger communication throughout the fog season.
