YouTuber Savukku Shankar arrested by Chennai Police

The Theni Police had picked up Shankar from Chennai on Tuesday after a special court had issued a non bailable warrant against him for failing to appear before the court.

CHENNAI: YouTuber Savukku Shankar, who has been currently lodged in Madurai Central Prison, after being arrested and charged under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, was again arrested by the Chennai City Police on Thursday, for allegedly spreading misinformation about a government scheme through his YouTube channel.

On Tuesday, the Theni Police picked up Shankar from Chennai after a special court issued a non-bailable warrant against him for failing to appear before the court. The fresh arrest comes amidst his remand in judicial custody till December 20.

The superintendent of the Madurai Central Prison where Shankar is lodged has been informed about his arrest.

Among the half a dozen cases booked against Shankar earlier this year, regarding derogatory content against women police personnel, is a case of ganja possession for which he was arrested by the Palanichettipati Police.
