Youth murdered in gambling dispute: Friend’s father, brother arrested

A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death at Vellavedu in Tiruvallur on Saturday night in an argument over gambling and police have arrested his friend’s father and brother.

The deceased Ashok Kumar of Puduchatram was a driver and the accused were identified as Sathish (26), his father Raja (56) and brother Muthu (28).

Police said Ashok Kumar and Sathish were friends and often played cards by betting cash. On Saturday, an argument erupted between them over betting and Sathish allegedly called his brother Muthu and father Raja over the phone to fight for him.

They reached the spot and in the melee, Raja stabbed Ashok Kumar several times before fleeing the spot.

On information, Vellavedu police registered a case and secured Raja and Muthu. They were remanded in judicial custody and a hunt has been launched for Sathish.
