Youth held for robbing pedestrian at knifepoint

The Villivakkam police arrested a 19-year-old youth for robbing a pedestrian at knifepoint on Friday night. The accused, S Anand of Villivakkam, does not have a criminal history.

He robbed Imran Khan’s (29) wallet containing Rs 250 and eight debit cards. The police said that Khan was returning home after visiting his brother in Tirunindravur when Anand intercepted him near Villivakkam railway station and robbed him. The accused was remanded in custody.


In another incident, the Kodungaiyur police arrested five persons, including three juveniles, for robbing a grocery shop owner. The victim Muthuvel was on his way to open the shop on Friday when a five-member gang robbed him of Rs 3,000 at knifepoint on Chinnamadam Road. Based on his complaint, the police launched a hunt for the suspects and secured them from their hideout. Two of them — Saravan and Danny — were remanded in judicial custody, while three juveniles were sent to an observation home.
