Youngsters found abusing drug given to women in labour, 7 held near Tambaram

Police arrested a group of youngsters for drug abuse near Tambaram on Tuesday. The arrested used powdered Nitravet tablets to administer injections on themselves for a kick.

The police, after receiving information that many youngsters are addicted to drugs in the suburbs like Tambaram, Pallavaram, and Shankar Nagar formed a special team to nab such abusers.

On Tuesday, police found that a group of youth were taking drugs in the Kadaperi mountain area. The police, who surrounded the spot, arrested seven of them. The arrested were identified as Saravasan (23), Karthick (25), Vishnupathi (21), Balaji (20), Ajmer (19), Kaif (21) and Goutham (22), all residents of West Tambaram. Police said Saravanan was already arrested in a drug case and was out on bail while Karthik and Vishnupathi have a few pending criminal cases against them.

Police said Nitravet-10 tablet is administered by doctors on women to help them cope with labour pain. The group had brought ten tablets for Rs 84 and powdered the tablets and injected it in their body using a syringe. The police are inquiring from where they bought the tablets since these tablets could be sold by medical shops only on doctors’ prescription.
