CHENNAI: From being merely job seekers, women have to become job providers to uplift themselves, said retired Madras High Court judge, Justice P Jyothimani.

Speaking at a State-level conference and workshop on women empowerment held at Anna University on Saturday, he also recalled how many great leaders from Abraham Lincoln to Mahatma Gandhi had raised their voices against the oppression of women and worked for their upliftment. Women should go forward on the path of progress, and should also endeavour to make this journey faster, he added.

Addressing the gathering, Samyuktha Adityan said it was important for women to dream big and work hard to achieve them without giving up the struggle to achieve their goals. Women should introspect what their strengths are, which is important to ensure their growth, she added.

During the conference, the Women Entrepreneurs Welfare Association also organised an exhibition of products made by women entrepreneurs, including organic napkins, handloom products, and makeup products among others.

The event was organised by the Centre for Empowerment of Women (CEW), Anna University; Aakriti, CEG Girls’ Forum, College of Engineering, Guindy; and Women Entrepreneurs Welfare Association (WEWA).
