Women alleges sexual harassment by bike taxi driver

The victim had got on the bike around 10 pm and throughout the ride, the rider had allegedly made sexual remarks and sexual advances at the woman.

CHENNAI: Police are investigating a sexual harassment complaint by a 22-year-old woman against a bike taxi driver.

The victim had booked a ride through a popular taxi aggregator service app on Sunday night to travel from Choolaimedu to Mylapore to visit her brother at his house there.

The victim had got on the bike around 10 pm and throughout the ride, the rider had allegedly made sexual remarks and sexual advances at the woman.

Fearing for her safety, the woman had kept quiet until she got dropped off.

Even after dropping her, the bike rider had allegedly grabbed the woman's arm and attempted to molest her.

Her brother, who had reached the scene to pick her up caught hold of the bike rider and alerted the police after which a patrol team reached the scene.

The rider, a 24-year-old man, a native of Kancheepuram and staying at Mogappair has been detained by the Royapettah Police.

Further investigations are on. Police are also perusing the CCTV footages.

In another incident in Mogappair, a 24 year old woman working with a NGO was groped by a bike rider when she was walking.

The incident happened on September 9 and the woman had filed a complaint with Thirumangalam Police, who have issued a CSR (Community Service Register)
