In a recent case, a young woman, Kumari (name changed), from Tiruvottiyur used glue to seal the eyes of her 54-year-old paramour shut and then slit his throat after he threatened to release certain obscene pictures he had taken of the woman.

On the day of the incident, Sekar, who was into the camphor business, had gone to Elliots Beach with Kumari. On their way back, the two stopped near Cross Road in north Washerman, where they usually met. “While they were speaking, Kumari asked Sekar to close his eyes as she wanted to surprise him with a birthday gift. She then applied adhesive to his eyes and slit his throat with a knife,” a police officer said.

Inquiries revealed that the two were in a relationship for the past four years, but he allegedly threatened her and her family with leaking her obscene photos online after she informed him of her decision to marry another person. The police later secured Kumari who confessed to the crime. “As she could not get out of his clutches and was also sexually assaulted by him, she took the extreme step,” the police officer said.
