The victim was identified as Sathiyavani (52), an accountant at the Government Treasury in Salem. A week ago, Sathiyavani had come to Chennai and was staying in her daughter’s house in Lakshmi Nagar near Anakaputhur.
On Monday evening, Sathiyavani was walking in the car parking of the apartment when a man came inside on a bike and told her he had come to clean the water tank. He went past her to the stairs. Suddenly he returned and snatched her 5-sovereign chain and escaped from the spot on the two-wheeler. The Shankar Nagar police have registered a caseand investigating.
