A newly-married woman went missing with 17 sovereign gold ornaments from the house in Tambaram forcing the husband to launch a police complaint on Thursday.

CHENNAI: A newly-married woman went missing with 17 sovereign gold ornaments from the house in Tambaram forcing the husband to launch a police complaint on Thursday.

Natarajan (25) of West Tambaram was working at a jewellery shop in Urapakkam. Police said that a year ago when Natarajan worked in an eatery in Tambaram, he developed a relationship with one Abinaya (20) who worked in the same shop and later the duo got married. Abinaya told Natarajan that she was alone without parents. Later, Natarajan's family arranged a wedding for the couple and they got married on August 29 at a venue in Tambaram.

Police said Natarajan's parents gifted 17 sovereign gold ornaments to Abinaya at the time of marriage.

After the marriage, the couple was living in a separate house in Tambaram.

On Thursday morning, Natarajan who woke up noticed that Abinaya was missing from the house and her mobile phone was switched off. Later, when checking the house, Natarajan noticed that the gold ornaments and a cash Rs 20,000 were missing from the house.

Later, he filed a complaint at the Tambaram police station. Police who had registered a case are trying to trace the missing Abinaya with help of mobile phone signals.
