The victim Vinodhini (named changed) has been living with her parents in Arumbakkam for the last four years after separating from her husband. She started getting calls from random phone numbers from August 4 onwards, with her callers obscenely speaking to her. But it was a porn video she received on WhatsApp on August 8 that proved to be the last straw. She then reported the matter to her parents who came up with a plan to apprehend the anonymous abuser. Vinodhini texted the messager on WhatsApp and asked him to come to her house in Arumbakkam.

An elated accused readily agreed and after confirming the time and date walked into her home on Wednesday without knowing what lay in store for him. Once he reached the house, the entire family beat him up and alerted the police control room.

A team of Choolaimedu police rushed to the house and secured the suspect. He was identified as R Vimalraj (29) of Tiruttani who works as a delivery boy for an e-commerce firm.

During interrogation, Vimalraj reportedly told police that he makes such random phone calls to women and harasses them. He was booked under the Women Harassment Act and IT Act and remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday night.

However, since the family has raised suspicion on Vinodhini’s estranged husband, police have booked him as well and have launched a hunt for him.
