CHENNAI: A three-member team led by the joint director of the State Health Department has started the investigation of star couple Vignesh and Nayanthara's surrogacy procedure.

The team would look into discrepancies, if any, during the process of surrogacy and would learn if it happened in a Tamil Nadu hospital. According to sources, Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara could be probed if need be.

For the unversed, Tamil film director Vignesh Shivan announced on social media that he and Nayanthara have become parents for twin boys. Controversy ignited when reports of surrogacy surfaced and in the backlash that followed the couple were accused of flouting surrogacy laws.

The long-time sweethearts got married in a grand event at Chennai's outskirts on June 9 this year.
