Upset over wife’s Insta reels, man attacks her with knife

Police investigations revealed that the couple used to have frequent quarrels over the woman’s addiction to social media.

CHENNAI: A 20-year-old youth inflicted cut injuries on his wife leaving her in the pool of blood at their house in Ayanavaram on Monday night, allegedly irate over her spending more time on social media, doing Instagram reels.

The attacker, Solomon, an electrician lived with his wife, Eswari and a one-year-old child on NMK Street in Ayanavaram.

Police investigations revealed that the couple used to have frequent quarrels over the woman’s addiction to social media. According to police sources, apart from Instagram reels, she also performed virtual duets with other men on another social media platform, which also created issues between the couple.

On Monday night, Solomon, was allegedly in an inebriated state, when he picked up an argument with Easwari. After their argument escalated, Solomonassaulted her.

In a fit of rage, Solomon took a kitchen knife and slashed it on his wife, causing injuries on her body. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to rescue and took her to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Based on a complaint, Aynavaram police arrested Solomon on Tuesday. He was produced before a magisrate and remanded in judicial custody.
