Unable to repay bank loan, techie kills self in Pozhichalur

A 25-year-old software engineer committed suicide since he had no money to repay the bank loan in Pozhichalur on Thursday. The deceased, Mahesh Kumar of Bhavani Nagar in Pozhichalur, works with a private firm in Chennai.

Police said Mahesh Kumar would use credit card often and has also taken a personal loan from a private bank to buy some home appliances and a few gadgets. During the lockdown, Mahesh Kumar did not have any proper income and could not repay the loan. Recently, Mahesh Kumar received a notice from the bank to clear the loan dues. A two days ago, he asked his father, who is an auto driver, to lend him Rs 5 lakh but his father said he did not have any money as autorickshaws were not plying for the last seven months. He even asked for help with a few of his friends but without any success.

Police said Mahesh Kumar was dejected and Thursday morning since he didn’t come out of his room his parents checked and found Mahesh Kumar hanging from the ceiling on a nylon rope. Though parents, with the help of neighbours, rushed him to a nearby hospital, Mahesh Kumar was declared brought dead.

On information, Shankar Nagar police visited the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. Further inquiry is on.
