Two workers killed as slab collapses in under construction site in Tambaram

The incident occurred at a private construction site in the IOB Colony, Selaiyur, East Tambaram where workers were engaged in construction activities.

CHENNAI: Two construction workers including a guest worker from Odisha died after a scaffolding collapse in Selaiyur near Tambaram on Monday.

The police identified the deceased as Kanagaraj (47), of Ramanathapuram, and Suru (27), of Odisha. The police said Kanagaraj and Suru have been working at a construction site in the IOB colony in Selaiyur for the past eight months.

According to the police, on Monday evening both workers were engaged in the centring work for flooring on the third floor during which the scaffolding collapsed and as a result, Kanagaraj and Suru fell to the ground. Both workers suffered severe injuries and they were rushed to the Chromepet GH. The doctors declared Kanagaraj dead on arrival and Suru was admitted to the ICU but he died without responding to treatments on Tuesday morning.

Based on the information, the Selaiyur police visited the spot and the police have registered a case. Further investigation is on.
