R Vairam, a 70-year-old woman of Tharasuram near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district was retuning from Papasanasam to Tharasuram in Mayiladuthurai-Tiruchy passenger train, on Sunday night. Vairam was still sleeping when the train reached the destination.
Suddenly, a co-passenger alerted her and she hurriedly got up to get off the train, little realising that it already had picked up speed. Vairam jumped off the moving train and was run over. She died on the spot. On information, Kumbakonam railway police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Kumbakonam GH for a post mortem.
Accident at Andakudi
In another accident at Andakudi near Sundaraperumal Koil, on Monday morning, the public noticed that a 70-yearold man was run over by a train. His body was retrieved by the Kumbakonam railway police and sent for a post mortem. Police have registered a case and are searching for the relatives of the old man.
