Two centres busted at Nungambakkam

A special team from Chennai city police on Wednesday night raided a gambling centre at Josier street, Nungambakkam, which was functioning under the guise of an office.

Police seized Rs 6,25,700 from the centre and arrested 23 people who were engaged in gambling at the centre. This was the third centre to be raided at Nungambakkam, in the last two days. Earlier police had raided one National Club and seized Rs 2.5 lakh and Johns Club at Valluvarkottam high road and seized Rs 79,000. Despite having so many gambling centres in the area, the Nungambakkam police had not reported the matter to the higher officials. According to the police, the centre was functioning on the terrace of a house under the guise of running an office. 

Police said, Kumar, of Thondiarpet had convinced the owners of the property that he wanted the place on rent to run an office and turned it as a gambling centre. All the 23 arrested personnel have been produced before the judicial magistrate court and were remanded in judicial custody.
